Every actor nominated for an Oscar on Thursday morning had to start somewhere, and some of the biggest names began in some of the most unexpected places.

Bryan Cranston is nominated for Best Actor in his work for Trumbo, but he first caught the public eye in the early 80s in a commercial for the hemorrhoid cream Preparation H.

Christian Bale is up for Best Supporting Actor for his work in The Big Short. 

He won in that category in 2011 for his performance in The Fighter, but he got his start at 13 when he first hit the big screen in the 1987 Steven Spielberg film Empire Of The Sun.

Long before Jennifer Lawrence was nominated for her fourth Best Actress Oscar she was in a commercial for MTV's My Super Sweet 16.

Brie Larson is also up for Best Actress for her role in Room, but who knew she could carry a tune? She released her debut album in 2005.

Saoirse Ronan, who is nominated for Best Actress in Brooklyn, holds dual citizenship - Irish and American. Her childhood home is in Bronx, New York where she lived in a modest apartment until she was three and her parents moved back to Ireland.

Sylvester Stallone got a nomination for reprising his role as Rocky in the hit film, Creed. However, before he was a household name known for portraying the iconic character, he was an adult film star.
