Celine Dion's Brother Dies of Cancer Days After Her Husband's Death

The celebrated French Canadian singer has had a tough week.

The death of Celine Dion's husband Rene Angelil this week has become all the more tragic after reports surfaced Saturday about the death of the singer's older brother.

Just two days after Angelil, 73, died following a long battle with throat cancer, it was revealed that Dion's older brother, 59-year-old Daniel Dion, had also died from cancer.

According to a statement released by Dion's rep Kim Jakwerth, Mr. Dion died Saturday while surrounded by family after a years long battle of his own.

Mr. Dion was in palliative care in Terrebonne, Quebec, outside Montreal, according to the statement.

The eighth of 14 Dion children, Daniel was the father of two daughters.

Dion's funeral will be held in the family's hometown of Charlemagne, Quebec, reports the Associated Press.

Angelil's death was announced Thursday. He passed away at the couple's Las Vegas home on Thursday morning, according to a statement on Dion's website.

The family requested privacy during their difficult time.

Angélil was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2013.

Dion, 47, put her Caesars Palace residency on hold to care for him but returned to the stage in August.
