In an exclusive interview with DailyMail.com, Dickinson said: "It's hard for me to say this, but I have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

"It's still quite shocking. Today I got very scared... I just get very scared and it hit me. But I am not gonna let that define me, the fear. I'm going to get through this."

She learned she had cancer two weeks ago after her doctor discovered a pea-sized lump. A mammogram confirmed her worst fears.

“When I found out, I knew I had to brave and I had to be strong,” she said.

The 61-year-old was diagnosed with early stage Ductal Carcinoma In Situ (DCIS) -- a common form of breast cancer that starts in the milk ducts.

In the next few days she’ll have a one-inch area of tissue around the lump in her breast removed. At this stage, doctors have ruled out a mastectomy which comes as a huge relief to her.

But she may not be out of the woods, doctors also found cancer in as many as three of her lymph nodes. They'll be testing the tissue to see if the cancer has spread.

“I’m going to get through this. You betcha kiddo and I will be just fine,” she said.
