Boy Killed by Alligator at Disney Resort Laid to Rest; Foundation Established in His Honor

The toddler's service was closed to the public.

The body of 2-year-old Lance Graves was laid to rest Tuesday in a private ceremony held in his home state of Nebraska.

The child died last week after an alligator snatched him from the shoreline of a lagoon outside Disney World’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.

A Mass was held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Omaha and was closed to the public.

Parents Matt and Melissa Graves offered thanks to “friends and strangers who share our loss and who have shown us profound compassion,” The Associated Press reported.

Little Lane was dragged into the water last Tuesday night as his father tried in vain to free him. The boy’s body was discovered by searchers on Wednesday.

An autopsy showed he died from traumatic injuries and drowning.

His parents have established a foundation in their son’s name to benefit charitable organizations.

Losing Lane has broken our hearts in the worst possible way. While there is no way to mend our hearts, we can do good work in his honor,” the couple said.

“If you would like to honor Lane, donations are being accepted on behalf of the Lane Thomas Foundation at the Omaha Community Foundation. We will use these funds to make direct donations to various charitable organizations.

“We thank you for helping us create a lasting legacy for our son.”
