Boy, 6, Writes Obama About Syrian Ambulance Boy: 'Can You Please Go Get Him?'

'We will give him a family and he will be our brother,' the boy wrote to President Obama.

A 6-year-old boy is captivating the internet with a letter he wrote to President Obama about the bloodied and dirt-covered Syrian child photographed in the back of an ambulance in the war-torn country this summer.

Alex, who lives in Scarsdale, New York, put pen to paper with a compassionate heart and a simple idea.

“Remember the boy who was picked up by the ambulance in Syria? Can you please go get him and bring him to our home?

“Park in the driveway or on the street and we’ll be waiting for you guys with flags, flowers and balloons,” he wrote on yellow legal paper.

The missive so moved the president that he read it aloud at a United Nations refugee summit in New York this week and posted it on his Facebook page, where it has gone viral.

“We should be more like Alex,” Obama said. “Imagine what the world would look like if we were. Imagine the suffering we could ease and the lives we could save.”

Alex, with the clarity of a child’s reasoning, tells Obama that he and his little sister, Catherine, will share their toys with the refugee and “give him a family and he will be our brother.”

He also volunteers his little sister’s services to collect “butterflies and fireflies” for the 5-year-old shell-shocked boy named Omran who was captured on video being carried from the rubble of his bombed home in Aleppo.

Video of the boy, showing him wiping away blood, stunned the world and refocused attention on the everyday horrors of Syria’s brutal civil, which has been raging since 2011.

"The humanity that a young child can display, who hasn’t learned to be cynical, or suspicious, or fearful of other people because of where they’re from, or how they look, or how they pray, and who just understands the notion of treating somebody that is like him with compassion, with kindness — we can all learn from Alex," Obama said.

Alex's letter filled three pages (Facebook)

The American boy also knows another child from Syria, he said.

“In my school I have a friend from Syria, Omar, and I will introduce him to Omar and we can all play together,” Alex wrote.

He also offers the use of his bicycle and Catherine’s bunny, as well as the opportunity to “smell Catherine’s lip gloss penguin, which is green. She doesn’t let anyone touch it.”

In closing, Alex told the president, “Thank you very much! I can’t wait for you to come!”
