Married Teacher Found Dead Amid Allegations He Had Sex With Student

Coroner said the death was accidental.

A married Alabama high school teacher, plagued by allegations that he had sexual relations with a student, was found dead of a bullet wound over the weekend, according to reports.

Jared Mothershed, a 27-year-old teacher who also coached football and baseball at Sheffield High School, was found shot on Saturday, according to the school’s superintendent.

Coroner Carlton Utley told WHNT that due to the lack of evidence at the scene, he has concluded Mothershed died from the accidental discharging of a firearm.

His death came days after Mothershed was placed on paid administrative leave while police investigated the report that he engaged in a "sex act or deviant sexual intercourse with a student."

According to the police report, the act took place at the high school and a 16-year-old female filed a report with police.

“Our focus now shifts to our students and we ask for your prayers for our students, our faculty and Mr. Mothershed's family," Superintendent Keith Lankford said.

The married father, whose son is just 4 months old, had reportedly taught at the school for three years.
