Stand-Up Comic Glad to Be Alive After Shots Ring Out During Her Act

Six people were shot and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

One comedian was just a few minutes into her standup routine during a performance in New Jersey Friday when dozens of shots suddenly rang out in the venue.

The audience that came to see Toni Byrd went from laughter to sheer terror as bullets were fired into the Sports in the City Lounge in Bloomfield.

“I was afraid for my life,” Byrd, of Brooklyn, New York, told Inside Edition. “All I know is, I heard gunshots and I just ran.”

Bloomfield police say 30 shots were fired into the club by gunmen on the street.

Six people were hit and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Byrd says she's glad she got out alive, saying, “I couldn't believe this happened. Like, who shoots up a comedy show?”

No arrests have been made in the shooting, and the investigation is ongoing.
