He may have helped his team win, but this NHL player's greatest accomplishment of the night was that his son got to see his big goal.
Patrick Maroon, who plays for the Edmonton Oilers, was visiting his hometown of St. Louis Tuesday night to take on the Blues when he got a chance to put the puck in the net.
And he did, scoring the game-tying goal with his son Anthony and wife Francesca cheering excitedly from the stands.
When Maroon spoke after the game to SportsNet Canada following the game, he broke down in tears discussing the impact of scoring in front of Anthony.
“It was pretty emotional,” he said as his voice cracked. “I don’t get to see him as much. It was pretty special.”
The team even tweeted about Anthony's reaction.
The Oilers beat the Blues 3-2.
