Former first twins Jenna and Barbara Bush appeared on the Today show Friday to read a touching letter they wrote to Malia and Sasha Obama as their time at the White House comes to an end.

The letter served as a bookend of sorts, as Bush twins welcomed the Obama girls eight years ago to Washington, D.C.

The Today Show displayed never-before-seen photos of the tour the Bush sisters and the former first lady Laura Bush gave to the new first family.

The tour included special moments for Malia and Sasha, then 10 and seven respectively, and featured an opportunity to slide down the bannister of the White House solarium.

“Just as we had done as eight-year-olds and again as 20-year-olds chasing our youth, your joy and laughter were contagious," Barbara Bush, 35, read.

The Bush twins noted how proud they were of Malia and Sasha, writing: "We have watched you grow from girls to impressive young women with grace and ease and through it all you had each other. Just like we did."

They also had advice for the Obama girls as they begin their new lives outside the White House.

“Explore your passions. Learn who you are. Make mistakes-you are allowed to. Continue to surround yourself with loyal friends who know you, adore you and will fiercely protect you,” Barbara read.

An emotional Jenna emphasized on the Today show just how proud she was of the girls and the time she and her family had inside America’s most famous address.

“I'm tearing up. It's just amazing how fast eight years go by,” she said.
