A little girl’s police-themed birthday party in Maine was all the more authentic when a real life police officer showed up as her special guest.
Little Evie Flanagan, of Augusta, wants to be a police officer “without question,” her mom told InsideEdition.com.
So when Officer Brad Chase of the Augusta Police Department showed up at her fifth birthday party unannounced, she was ecstatic.
“It was a surprise to us all,” Lauren Flanagan said. “Evie’s face lit right up. She was so excited to show him around, show off her cake and she [was] even kind enough to offer him a doughnut, which was hysterical.”
Flanagan explained the pair met during a “Coffee With a Cop” event held at a local restaurant. Unbeknownst to Flanagan’s family and Officer Chase, the event had been canceled due to a local snowstorm, and they were the only ones there.
“He felt terrible. He said, ‘I don’t even have any stickers or anything. How about a business card?” she recalled. “The kids each took one, and they were just as happy with that.”
He then invited the family to a tour of the police station, showed them around a patrol car, and sent them along with goodies and memorabilia.
“It was all Evie could talk about,” her mom said.
They reached out to Chase ahead of her birthday party, and while he said he didn’t think he would be able to make it, he made an exception for little Evie once he realized how much of a fan she was.
Flanagan explained that Evie has wanted to be a police officer ever since she watched the movie “Zootopia” and hopes to one day ensure peace and safety just like her heroes.
“When she sees a police officer, she sees someone making the world a better place,” Flanagan said.
