Several Reported Shot as Gunman Opens Fire at Hospital in New York

At least three people were shot at a New York hospital after a gunman opened fire late Friday afternoon, police said. 

The shooter, who police have identified as Dr. Henry Bello, opened fire at Bronx Lebanon Hospital in Morris Heights at about 2:45 p.m.

The hospital's website listed a Henry Bello as a doctor in the family medicine department. 

By 4 p.m., the gunman was found dead on the 17th floor of the hospital, a police source confirmed to InsideEdition.com. The gunman may have died by his own hand, the source said.

The shooter, who was said to be a former employee of the hospital, was seen wearing a white coat and reportedly using an M-16-type rifle, the New York Daily News reported.

Two of the victims were women and one was dead, according to ABC7. Three victims were said to have been doctors, The New York Times wrote. 

As gunfire erupted, many in the hospital barricaded themselves in rooms and called 911, the police source told InsideEdition.com.

Smoke was reported to be coming from the 16th floor, as first responders swept the hospital searching for the shooter found a trail of blood leading from the second to the eighth floor, according to The News

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives responded to the scene, officials said.

The FBI said the NYPD would be the point agency on the shooting, tweeting: "NYPD is handling Bronx shooting. At this time there is no nexus to terrorism; we are monitoring situation."

President Donald Trump has also been briefed on the shooting.
