Footage Surfaces Of Germanwings Co-Pilot Andreas Lubitz Learning to Fly
"Why is it so quiet today? It's unbelievable."
Newly discovered video of deranged co-pilot Andreas Lubitz learning to fly a glider has surfaced.
He gazed at the German countryside below and asks his companion: "Why is it so quiet today? It's unbelievable."
The video surfaced as we learn more chilling new details about the last minutes of the doomed plane that Lubitz crashed into the French Alps, killing all on board.
The glider video was shot in 2007 when Lubitz was just 19 years old.
It shows the glider taking off and towed into the air by a plane. The glider was then released and Lubitz took the controls. Learning to fly the glider was his first step to becoming a pilot.
In the video, he came in for a bumpy landing at the end of the flight.
Now the question the world is asking: Why would someone who seemed to love flying do something so monstrous?
The German newspaper, Bild published a leaked transcript of the voice recorder that provides a countdown to the disaster.
The pilot tells Lubitz to make preparations for landing. But Lubitz ominously replies "hopefully" and "we'll see." Then, the pilot says he needs to go to the bathroom. “You can go now,” Lubitz responded.
The pilot left the cockpit.
10:32 a.m.: The pilot returned but found the cockpit door locked. He banged on the door, shouting: "For God's sake, open the door!" as passengers scream in the background.
10:37 a.m.: An alarm sounded with the warning: "Terrain. Pull up." The captain screamed, "Open the [expletive] damn door!"
All this time Lubitz is breathing normally.
10:40 a.m.: A loud scraping sound appeared over the voice recorder, followed by screams, then nothing.
A new report says Lubitz was worried about losing his pilot's license because of a detached retina.
Lubitz' eyesight was reportedly reduced to 30%. But German prosecutors, say his eyesight was fine and his perceived vision problems may have been psychosomatic.
There are also reports that his girlfriend was pregnant with his child. They also reportedly broke-up before he crashed into the Alps.
