Wilson spoke to New Yorker magazine as the one-year anniversary of the incident approaches.
Wilson, now 29, resigned from the Ferguson Police Department after widespread protests when a St. Louis grand jury said he would not be prosecuted for shooting the unarmed black teenager on August 9, 2014.
He told the magazine he wished he could return to his job, even for a brief time.
“I would want to do it for a day,” he said, adding he wanted to show people he had not been “defeated.”
The former police officer said he interviewed for several police positions but has been turned down over liability concerns.
“It’s too hot an issue, so it makes me unemployable,” he said.

According to the article, Wilson and his second wife, also a police officer, left Ferguson with their child and live in an undisclosed location in the St. Louis area.
But the 2014 shooting has presented some problems in his life, such as choosing where to go out.
He told the magazine: “We try to go somewhere — how do I say this correctly? — with like-minded individuals. You know. Where it’s not a mixing pot.”
After the shooting and subsequent protests, the Justice Department released a report saying there was "no evidence upon which prosecutors can rely to disprove Wilson’s stated subjective belief that he feared for his safety."
