Foo Fighters Viral Video Organizer 'Cried Like a Baby' After Band Agreed to Play His Town
After Foo Fighters answered the call of 1,000 Italian rockers playing a song to get them to perform in their town, the organizer says he got emotional.
After 1,000 Foo Fighters fans performed the band's hit “Learn to Fly” in a bid to get them to play their small Italian town, the band agreed to the performance.
And organizer Fabio Zaffagnini, who worked on the project for more than a year, admits he had an emotional reaction to the news.
"I started crying like a baby," he told The Guardian. "I’m not an emotional person, but so much went into it.”
He spoke to the newspaper following the good news.
“Every time I go outside and walk down the street, everyone’s coming up to me with hugs and thanks for what me and the rest of the team did,” he said.
He launched the campaign “Rockin’ 1000” in an effort to attract musicians from across his country for the mass performance.
Just a day after the video hit the web, it gained millions of views. Foo Fighters leader Dave Grohl posted his own video and said in Italian that his band will play his town, Cesena.

The singer said: "Hello Cesena. It is David. Hello. I am sorry, I don't speak Italian -- only a little, a little. This video, how beautiful. How fantastic. Thanks a million! We are coming, I promise. We will see you soon. Thanks a million! I love you. Bye.
Zaffagnini told The Guardian: “I thought they’d never come to Cesena, since the Foo Fighters are so big and my city is so small. So I wanted to do something special to impress them.”
The inspiration for the idea came from watching the special features of the 2003 Jack Black comedy School of Rock. In the bonus features on the DVD, Black and director Richard Linklater make a video plea to Led Zeppelin for permission to use a song in the film.
When Zaffagnini heard Grohl saw the video, he said: "I thought it was a joke when I first saw it. When I realized it was him, I started crying again! I don’t cry often, but it’s been very hard to contain the emotions I’ve had.”
