Elementary School Student Playing With Gun at Desk Accidentally Shoots Classmate

A Georgia elementary school student accidentally shot another child while handling a gun.
A Georgia elementary school student who brought a gun to school accidentally shot a classmate.
The student is currently in police custody, according to a school board statement.

The child had brought the gun to school and was "playing with the gun inside a desk," a spokesman explained.
"It was an accidental discharge,” they added.
The girl who was shot suffered minor injuries and has been released from hospital.

Parents were notified of the accidental shooting, said school officials. All other students and staff were unharmed.
