Puppy Who Was Found Inside a Cardboard Box in the Rain is Now Winning at Life
A puppy that was found inside a box on a NYC sidewalk and has now transformed to a healthy dog.
A puppy has undergone an incredible transformation since she was found dumped on the street inside a cardboard box last year.
Workers from the Animal Care Center in New York found the crying, nameless eight-week-old dog on a Manhattan street in April last year - and quickly learned she was in dire need of medical aid.
They contacted the Second Chance Rescue (SCR), an organization that responds to animals that have been abused or neglected.
They named her Peach, bathed her and while wearing a cute sweater to keep warm, she opened her eyes.
Peach was taken into foster care and nursed back to health.
The SCR have been posting her progress on Facebook.
After her skin healed she was ready for a forever home.
Her new owner Eddie Brito told INSIDE EDITION that he first heard of Peaches while browsing through Facebook and seeing her on the rescue center's page.
"I started to follow her since I felt so bad for her and the condition she was in," he said. "Hoping she would be put up for adoption, I looked at her site every day, and followed her story."
But eventually, he decided he should be the one to take her in. His vet had suggested they get a second dog to keep their 14-year-old Pit Bull Terrier company, and Peaches seemed perfect.
When they finally met her, it was love at first sight.
"She had a lot of energy when we met her... but she was so loving and trusting we had to have her," he said.
The family took her in and changed her name to Schultzie.
Today, after the care of her new owners, she looks unrecognizable.
Eddie, who said he will always be grateful to the rescue center for introducing them to Schultzie, added that she is now healthy and happy - and still has as much energy as the day they met her.
"She loves her new family [and] greets daddy everyday as if she has not seen him for years," he said. "She is very mischievous and loves to tug at shoe laces."
He added: "Everyone that meets her falls in love with her instantly."
