Hulk Hogan Tearfully Asks For Forgiveness For Using Racial Slurs: 'I Wanted to Kill Myself'
Hulk Hogan went to 'GMA' to emotionally express his apologies and ask for forgiveness about a leaked tape that heard him using racial slurs.
Hulk Hogan is apologizing for using racial slurs in a 2007 rant that was leaked earlier this summer.
The wrestling icon was fired from the WWE in July after a transcript from a sex tape was leaked. In the transcript, he uses the “N” word in reference to a man his daughter, Brooke, was supposedly dating.
In an interview that aired on Good Morning America on Monday, Hogan became emotional as he apologized.
“I'm not a racist but I never should have said what I said. It was wrong. I'm embarrassed by it," he told GMA.
“People need to realize you inherit things from your environment. And where I grew up was south Tampa, Port Tampa, and it was a really rough neighborhood. Very low income. And all my friends, we greeted each other saying that word."
He also told GMA that he should not be judged based on that rant from eight years ago.
"If everybody at their lowest point was judged on one thing they said, and let's just say in high school, you may have said one bad thing and all of a sudden, your whole career was wiped out today because of something you said 10 or 20 years ago, it'd be a sad world. People get better every day. People get better," he said.
He added: "“I was at the lowest point of my life, to the point where I wanted to kill myself."
After the leak, his image was scrubbed from the WWE’s website. He was also removed from the online Hall of Fame.
WWE told INSIDE EDITION at the time: "WWE terminated its contract with Terry Bollea (aka Hulk Hogan). WWE is committed to embracing and celebrating individuals from all backgrounds.”
