This Musician's 9/11-Themed Wedding is Sparking Outrage
Devo member Jerry Casale's 9/11-themed wedding is raising eyebrows across the country.
Devo founder Jerry Casale celebrated his marriage to Krista Napp on 9/11 but their celebration is causing outrage.
Their faces were plastered on a wedding cake shaped like the Twin Towers and the place settings were an image of box cutters like those used by the terrorists on board the airplanes during the 9/11 attacks. Box cutters were even handed out as party favors.
The New York Daily News called it: “Sickest wedding ever.”
In a statement to INSIDE EDITION, Casale said that they celebrated at a small gathering on 9/11 - a date that was picked "more or less by chance" because his marriage license application was about to expire.
He said: "One of [our friends] surprised me with the cake because I had said that my new wife, Krista, and I were "the Twin Towers of love" when people thought it was macabre to get married on 9/11.
"I said 'love conquers all for real.' I certainly realize the cake was in bad taste. I sincerely apologize to all those who were offended by the photos someone leaked."
He said that he was devastated by the outrage over the incident.
The musician also tweeted:
Deep apologies for all offended. There is a real explanation and its not what you think. Surprise cake and pix to TMZ was a set up. TBC...September 15, 2015
This isn’t the first time the musician stirred up controversy. In 2006, he started the band Jihad Jerry and the Evildoers. He dressed in a turban and declared a “war on stupidity.” The project was shortlived before he returned to Devo later in the decade.
