Dr. Ben Carson: I Was Held at Gunpoint at a Popeye's
Ben Carson shared the experience while defending his controversial claim that he'd have fought the Oregon shooter.
Presidential hopeful Dr. Ben Carson is drawing more heat over comments he made in the wake of last week’s community college massacre in Oregon.

He was originally slammed for saying: "I would not just stand there and let him shoot me. I would say: 'Hey guys, everybody attack him. He may shoot me, but he can't get us all.'"
An 18-year-old student, Mathew Downing, who survived the shooting, says: "I'm fairly upset he said that. Nobody could truly understand what actions they would take like that in a situation unless they lived it."
On Thursday, Dr. Carson appeared on CNN. He said: "To me that doesn't sound like a very controversial thing, but when you take it out of context and you try to make it look like I'm criticizing the victims, that's when it becomes controversial...I would much rather go down fighting."
Carson also responded to Downing's comments on CNN, saying: "I suspect he probably has had it fed to him by somebody who misconstrued it and I think if he had heard the complete explanation I gave, he'd know that I'm not complaining about any of the victims."
The Republican candidate also revealed that he once faced a gunman himself during a stickup at a Popeye’s fast food restaurant when he was a young medical resident in Baltimore. But did he "go down fighting," as he said he would?
He explained on the Karen Hunter Show on Sirus XM: “I have had a gun held on me. Guy comes in, puts a gun in my ribs. And I just said, I believe that you want the guy behind the counter. He said ‘Oh, ok.’”
Blitzer brought up the Popeye's situation and told Carson: "That is counter to what you are recommending right now."
"That is a completely different situation; this is a guy who comes into a joint to rob them. Not somebody who is sequentially killing people," Carson replied.
Blitzer fired back and said: “You didn’t know he was going to rob the joint."
“I did know that,” the GOP candidate said.
“He potentially could have killed you,” Blitzer said.
