Matt Barnes on Derek Fisher After Reported Fight: 'We Were Close. Things Have Changed'
NBA star Matt Barnes spoke about the alleged confrontation he had with former teammate Derek Fisher at his home.
Barnes told ESPN: “We were close. We were friends. Some things have happened to change that. It is what it is."
The situation arose when Barnes found out Fisher was at his home with the Grizzlies player’s ex wife, Gloria Govan. It was initially reported that Barnes drove 95 miles to his ex’s home to confront Fisher.
Barnes is denying that happened, telling ESPN: "I can't believe people think I was some maniac driving 95 miles and listening to Tupac to go beat somebody up.
"No. I live 15 minutes away, and I was going over to check on my kids because they seemed uncomfortable. That was my main reason for going over there."
His son Carter had contacted him and according to the NBA star: “When I saw his face, he was just sitting there, and I knew something was wrong. I was like, 'What's wrong, Carter?' and he shook his head, 'No.' Then he lays his head down on the couch, puts a pillow in front of his face and says, 'Mommy's friend Derek is here.'”
Officers responded to the incident. No charges were filed.
At Knicks practice on Thursday, Fisher was bombared with questions. He told reporters: “I am basically not going to comment about this situation directly."
