New Video of 'El Chapo' Prison Break Has Banging Noises as Drug Lord Flees While Guards Watch

New video of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman's brazen escape from a Mexican prison contains loud banging noises as the world's most wanted drug lord escapes while guards apparently ignore the sounds.

The footage was obtained by Mexican news network Televisa. It shows a split screen, with images of guards sitting in front of video monitors as hammering sounds are heard.

The video is a longer version of tape released in July following the drug cartel’s daring escape through an underground tunnel that had been dug underneath his prison cell. The new tape also contains sound, unlike the initial video.

According to the footage, guards do not appear in Guzman’s cell until almost 30 minutes after he descended into the tunnel and boarded a motorcycle fitted into a track that carried him to freedom.

Several prison employees have been arrested since the escape, and there have been widespread accusations of government and prison corruption.

It’s not the first time Guzman, the kingpin of Mexico’s nefarious Sinaloa Cartel, has escaped a high-security prison. In 2001, he broke out of another correctional facility after bribing guards to smuggle him out in a laundry basket.

He is wanted on murder and drug trafficking charges in Mexico and the U.S.

The FBI has offered a $5 million reward for his capture
