Missing Georgia Tech Student Found Severely Injured Had the 'S*** Beaten Out of Him,' Mom Says
Missing Georgia Tech student found severely beaten and abandoned on railroad tracks, family says.
A Georgia Tech student missing since Friday has been found alive, but severely wounded, after he was mugged and “had the s*** beaten out of him," his mother said.
Jimmy Hubert had vanished on his way home from a fraternity dance, his family said.
The 24-year-old aerospace technology student was found face-down and unconscious on a commuter rail track in Atlanta Monday by a determined friend using a “Find my iPhone” app.
He is hospitalized in intensive care with broken vertebrae, broken ribs, a punctured lung, and partial paralysis, according to his mom, Didi Olivia.
“He was NOT ON DRUGS. He was NOT DRUNK,” she posted.
Friend Emma Rose was able to find Hubert based on a ping from his date’s cell phone, which was in his pocket, his mother said.
Georgia Tech, as well as friends and family, took to social media try to find the student, who is vice president of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity.
He had left the dance alone and taken a MARTA commuter train to get home, his mom said.
They also passed out fliers and searched over the weekend for the missing young man.
Rose was combing the location of the cell phone’s last ping, which was at 1 a.m. Saturday, Hubert’s family said. The phone had then gone dead and the social media app was no longer able to track it.
Hubert has not been able to talk much because of his injuries, but was able to say he had been jumped and robbed, his family said.
His mother asked for prayers that her son would soon recover.
“When he got off the train, he was jumped, beaten up and left for dead,” she said.
