Jimmy Kimmel Slams Trump for 'Cryptic' Last-Minute Cancellation
The comedian mocked the Republican frontrunner after he cancelled his appearance.
Late night host Jimmy Kimmel has declared war on Donald Trump.
On his show Tuesday, which is broadcasting from his native Brooklyn borough, the host said: “You know, Donald Trump was supposed to be here tonight.”
Kimmel's audience responded with a chorus of boos.
He then said: “Now he's glad he didn't come, I guess.”
The Republican frontrunner cancelled an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! at the last minute and the comedian wasn't happy about it.
“His people called late last night and cancelled on us. They were cryptic as to why he canceled -- they said he has a major political commitment. But he did want me to relay the message to you that if he had been here, he would have been great,” he said.
Trump was even supposed to appear in a comedy sketch.
“Why did he cancel? We told him there were cameras here, right? Are Tuesday nights the night he volunteers down at the orphanage?” the host joked.
A Trump spokesperson said in a statement: "Unfortunately, Mr. Trump now has a political obligation that will prevent him from joining as planned, but we have rescheduled to join in-studio in L.A. over the next few weeks."
Kimmel responded to the statement, telling his audience: “Don't worry. Tonight, we're going to give everyone in the audience a basketball dipped in cologne, so you can fully experience what it would have been like had Donald Trump been here.”
A just-released ABC / Washington Post poll says Trump has widened his lead over his Republican rivals.
He's now at 32 percent, a double-digit lead over Dr. Ben Carson at 22 percent. Florida Senator Marco Rubio is third at ten percent.
