69-Year-Old Man Found Dead on His Kitchen Floor May Have Been There for a Year

The Sheriff's office in Lansing County, Michigan on Friday said a 69-year-old man found dead in his home may have died a full year ago.
A 69-year-old man was reportedly found dead on his own kitchen floor on Friday and police say he may have been there a year before the body was finally discovered.
Lansing County Sheriff Bob Bezotte said on Tuesday that authorities believe Gary Richard Buys died of natural causes in his Tyrone Township home.

However, Bezotte reportedly added that the body's advanced state of decay indicated Buys likely died a year or more before he was found on the kitchen floor.
The Lansing State Journal reports that Bezotte said officers found "quite a few liquor bottles' in Buys" home.
However, the sheriff was unable to say whether alcohol contributed to Buys' death. “It still remains open until an autopsy is completed,” he said.

The remains were discovered following a welfare check call made by the man who takes care of Buys' cabin in northern Michigan.
Investigators said his bills were paid automatically and that Buys had no family who could have alerted authorities sooner.
