Report: Ben Carson Rep Admits He Manufactured His West Point Scholarship Story

Ben Carson has admitted that he fabricated his application and acceptance into the West Point Military Academy, according to POLITICO.

The news website inquired about Carson’s acceptance to the prestigious Academy, which had been a central point to the doctor and aspiring GOP leader’s life, according to his book, Gifted Hands.

West Point said they have no record of him being admitted or applying, according to Poltico. 

Theresa Brinkerhoff, a spokesperson for West Point told Politico: “In 1969, those who would have completed the entire process would have received their acceptance letters from the Army Adjutant General. If he chose to pursue (the application process) then we would have records indicating such."

After being presented with the evidence, Carson’s camp has said that the story is indeed false, according to the report. 

INSIDE EDITION has not heard back from Carson after reaching out for comment. 

Carson himself has not made any statement about the issue. He did, however, appear on Fox News on Thursday, where he told host Megyn Kelly that he was a violent teenager.

Carson was reacting to an investigative story on CNN that raised questions about his claims that in his troubled youth he once tried to stab somebody and even went after his own mother with a hammer but was stopped from committing the act by his brothers.

"Those claims are absolutely true. You know, I am a hundred percent sure that they're true," he said. "Because when I would have flashes of temper, it would only be the people who were directly involved. It wouldn't be something that everybody else would know.”

CNN reported they can't find anyone from his past who remembers Carson being violent.

Kelly brought that up, asking: “They described you as quiet, nerdy with glasses, skinny and unremarkable. Do you feel like this is the beginning, Dr. Carson? The beginning of some in the media trying to end your candidacy?"

He called the CNN investigation "silly" and said it was a “smear campaign,” adding: “They're going to go back and try to find anything that I've ever said and try to get me on defensive about it in order to distract away from the things that are important.”
