He revealed the news on Tuesday night on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and he told the host: “It's the best moment of my career, I can't believe it. I’d like to thank my hair dresser, my stylist.”

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star will cover the coveted 30th anniversary issue of People’s “Sexiest Man Alive,” and joins a long line of famous faces like Mel Gibson, JFK, Jr., Chris Hemsworth and Harrison Ford.

So what was his superstar wife Victoria’s reaction?

“She was pretty pleased. I would hope she'd think that anyways. It’s nice to have that title to throw at my wife from time to time,” he said.

In the latest issue, which was unveiled on Wednesday morning at Madam Toussad's in Times Square, Beckham said: "I never feel that I’m an attractive, sexy person. I mean I like to wear nice clothes and nice suits and look and feel good, but I don't ever think of myself that way."

Beckham, who retired from soccer in 2013 when he played for Paris Saint-Germain, is now an ambassador for the sport.
