Ex-Subway Frontman Jared Fogle Gets 15 Years for Child Sex Charges: 'I Let So Many of You Down'
Former Subway pitchman Jared Fogle, 38, was today sentenced for child porn and sex crime charges.
Former Subway pitchman Jared Fogle was today sentenced to 15 years and eight months behind bars for child porn and sex crime charges.
The 38-year-old became emotional as he apologized to his victims and family during the hearing in Indianapolis on Thursday.
"Not a day will go by when I don't think about what I did to (the victims)," he said. "For most of my adult life, I've been in the spotlight, trying to be a role model... I became dependent on alcohol, pornography and prostitute... I so regret that I let so many of you down."
U.S. District Judge Tanya Walton Pratt accepted Fogle's accepted his guilty plea. He previously pleaded guilty to one count each of traveling to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor and distribution and receipt of child pornography.
During the hearing, police detective Darin Odier revealed Fogle's alleged texts to a supposed 18-year-old prostitute, IndyStar.com reported.
In 2011, he said that Fogle texted the teenager: "I'll pay you big for a 14- or 15-year-old."
Another text allegedly read: "Did you find me some young girls or boys?"
He allegedly said payment depended on "if they can prove their age," but that he'd pay at least $300 for someone good looking.
Odier said that Fogle also texted an underage girl he had sex with to help find him other girls, asking: "How young do you think you can find?"
Also during the hearing, Dr. John Bradford, a psychiatrist who analyzed Fogle, who said he concluded that the former Subway pitchman suffers from hypersexuality, alcohol abuse and dependency. He also said that Fogle had "mild pedophilia."
And he said that losing weight - which Fogle did on his Subway sandwich diet - contributed.
“Once he lost weight, it seemed as though in a short time he had hyper-sexuality,” he said. “There are brain disorders that can be associated with sexual drive.”
In August, Fogle agreed to plead guilty after a raid of his suburban Indianapolis home in July.
He admitted paying for sex with girls as young as 16 and receiving child pornography. The prosecutor on Thursday said that Fogle spent a minimum of $12,000 a year on prostitutes.
According to court documents, Fogle traveled from his home in Indiana to some of Manhattan’s hotels, including the Plaza and the Ritz Carlton, to have sex with underage girls.
He agreed to pay his 14 victims $100,000 each in restitution.
After he agreed to plead guilty, his wife Katie wasted no time in announcing that she was splitting from him. The couple has two children together.
"I am extremely shocked and disappointed,” she said in a statement. "I am in the process of seeking a dissolution of the marriage."
Fogle was a spokesperson for Subway for 15 years. He became the face of the company after eating nothing but Subway turkey and veggie subs, which he said helped him lose 235 pounds.
But after the allegations emerged this summer, Subway cut all ties with Fogle.
"We no longer have a relationship with Jared and have no further comment," it wrote on Facebook.
