The Daily Show's Jon Stewart Puts President Obama in the Hot Seat
Some are saying President Obama's decision to appear on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart was unwise. INSIDE EDITION has more.
"Are you disappointed in how it's gone?" Daily Show host Jon Stewart asked guest President Obama.
The President's big appearance on The Daily Show brought him little comic relief from the tough midterm election year.
"I have a profound disagreement with you," the President told Stewart.
For half an hour, President Obama was peppered with hard-hitting questions from Stewart about whether he'd lived up to the promises that got him elected.
"You said we can't expect different results with the same people, and I remember when you hired Larry Summers," Stewart said.
The question about Obama's selection of former Secretary of the Treasury Larry Summers as his chief economic advisor led to this gaffe:
The President started, "Larry Summers did a heck of a job trying to figure out how to..." and trailed off when the audience began to laugh.
"You don't want to use that phrase, dude," said a smiling Stewart.
Former President Bush infamously gave former FEMA Director Michael Brown the same compliment after his disastrous handling of the Hurricane Katrina crisis in New Orleans.
The President tried to make light of his blunder, saying, "Pun intended."
Beth Frerking of Politico.com tells INSIDE EDITION, "I think the President probably goes into any situation like that prepared for all kinds of eventualities and while I suspect he would have preferred a more humorous tone, he was ready for the serious tone that he encountered. Really it was very serious."
And Republican strategist Karl Rove of all people, is questioning whether Sarah Palin has the "gravitas" to become President.
London's Daily Mail quoted Rove as saying, "With all due candor, appearing on your own reality show on the Discovery Channel, I am not certain how that fits in the American calculus of 'that helps me see you in the Oval Office.'"
