Incredibly, he was also in France at the time of the Paris terror attacks last November. He was stationed at a Mormon mission in a different part of the city.
"This is his third terrorist attack," his father Chad Wells told ABC News. "This is the third time that sadly in our society that we have a connection to a bomb blast. We live in a dangerous world and not everyone is kind and loving."
Wells was with three fellow missionaries at the Brussels airport on Tuesday morning when two bombs were detonated, killing at least 11 people. A later explosion at a metro station brought the death toll to more than 30.
Wells' parents were able to speak with him after the attacks. He suffered burns and serious damage to one of his heels in the blast.

"I think the Boston experience helped him to stay calm," his father said.
His friends were also hurt in the blast on Tuesday. He was with 66-year-old Richard Norby and 20-year-old Joseph Empey as they said goodbye to French missionary, 20-year-old Fanny Rachel Clain, as she headed to Ohio.
