The film in question is the critically panned Freddy Got Fingered starring Tom Green.

The movie wasn’t even a DVD, it was a VHS tape. J&J Video in Salisbury, is actually one of the few left that still offers films on VHS.

James Meyers says he was driving his daughter to school when he “got pulled over for a bad brake light, (and) they ran my driver’s license,” he told IE.

He couldn’t believe what happened next. There was a warrant out for his arrest for failing to return a video tape.

“I thought it was a joke,” he said. “I was handcuffed. They took my wallet, searched me, and patted me down.”

Actor Green, who is current on tour in Australia, called Meyers when he heard about the bust.

The comic said on The Program, an Australian TV show: “We had a good laugh about it. I think it's an example of how bureaucracy can get out of control. “

Green, who has reportedly offered to pay Meyers' potential $200 fine, also tweeted about it:

I just saw this and I am struggling to believe it is real.

Lawyer Adam Seifer of the SeiferFlatow, PLLC firm, represents Meyers.

“The fact it's made its way 14 years down the pike is crazy,” he told IE.

Right now, the defendant says all he can do is laugh about the arrest.
