Christopher Darden Responds to Marcia Clark Romance Rumors

O.J. Simpson prosecutor Christopher Darden did not have an affair with trial partner Marcia Clark, he said Monday.

"People want that. People want a happy ending to what was a terrible ending, a terrible story," Darden said during an appearance on the Today show.

"If I were to say that I had a relationship with Marcia Clark, people would say we lost the case because we were more interested in intimacy than in the law and the facts," the former prosecutor said.

Clark, in an April appearance on the program, also denied rumors that she and Darden were romantically involved during the celebrity trial that ended with Simpson's acquittal in 1995.

"We were the best of friends," she said. "We were trench mates. It was like living in a bubble. No one else could understand what it was like to live through that, but he could. We were certainly very close, but no, we were partners," Clark said.

In his Monday interview, Darden also said he does not regret having Simpson try on leather gloves in the courtroom, which had been found at the crime scene of the murders of Nicole Brown and her friend, Ronald Goldman.

The gloves, which had been covered in blood, appeared not to fit Simpson when he pulled them on in front of jurors.

"I think the trial was lost way before then," said Darden.

"Let me go on the record and say that I can't regret it. It's the past. I think desperate times call for desperate measures. "For me, as a lawyer, I'm always going to try and win," he said.

Darden also said he had no interest in the hit TV miniseries The People v. O.J. Simpson, and did not watch it. 

"I knew the series would not be accurate," he said.
