NBA Player Is Shot Dead After Mistakenly Entering the Wrong Apartment: Reports
Bryce Dejean-Jones, 23, of the New Orleans Pelicans, broke down the door of a Dallas apartment after police say he thought his girlfriend locked him out.
An NBA player was gunned down early Saturday after police say he mistakenly entered the wrong apartment.
Bryce Dejean-Jones, a 23-year-old rookie guard for the New Orleans Pelicans, was shot and killed after a Dallas man told cops the athlete broke down his front door and entered his apartment.
In the ensuing investigation, police say they came to believe the LA native, who was in town visitng his girlfriend and his daughter for her first birthday, was under the false impression that his girlfriend had locked him out of the apartment.
It was reportedly Dejean-Jones' first time visiting the building.

Dejean-Jones' agent told the AP that his client had gone for a walk after he and his girlfriend had gone out. The girlfriend went home to her fourth floor apartment.
However, when Dejean-Jones arrived, he went to the third floor.
"He went to the wrong apartment unfortunately and I think he thought his girlfriend locked him out, so he was knocking on the door, banging on the door, it's locked," Nichols said. "So one thing led to another."
According to a statement from Dallas police, they said the resident of the apartment reported that an individual had kicked open the front door and entered his apartment.
The resident, who was asleep in the bedroom, heard the individual enter and retrieved a handgun. He told cops he called out to the individual, but was not answered.

As the individual kicked the bedroom door, the resident said he fired his gun.
Dejean-Jones stumbled into a breezeway, where he was found and taken to a hospital. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries.
The New Orleans Pelicans confirmed the sad news on its Facebook page Saturday.
"We are devastated at the loss of this young man’s life who had such a promising future ahead of him. Our thoughts and prayers are with Bryce’s family during this difficult time," the post read.
