What a Doll! Generous Cop Surprises Little Girl With a New Barbie
A Massachusetts police officer bought the doll for the girl after her grandmother said she didn't have the money to cover it.
Go ahead, make her day.
A Massachusetts cop did just that last week with a random act of kindness for a deserving little girl.
While shopping for a Father’s Day card Tuesday morning, Somerville Police Officer Ashley Catatao met a little girl and her grandmother at a check-out line in Walgreens.
Six-year-old Jessica held a Barbie doll in her hand, hoping to take it home, but the grandmother said she didn't have enough money to buy it.
“I was impressed by the girl’s reaction,” Officer Catatao told InsideEdition.com. “She wasn’t crying or throwing a tantrum; she completely understood.”
Officer Catatao said her heart strings were pulled when she saw the grandmother’s sullen look. She asked the clerk the price of the doll and decided to pay for it herself.
When she presented the new gift to the little girl, she smiled and thanked her repeatedly.
“She was shy, but she kept thanking me over and over.” Catatao said. “The grandmother was very appreciative.”
Officer Catatao has a history of giving back. Last year, she sent a bouquet of flowers and a heartwarming note to a woman she pulled over when she learned that her mother was in hospice care.
For her kind and generous heart, the officer was given the “Beyond the Call of Duty Award.” She said she wants to set an example and be a good role model to her 2-year-old son.
“I truly have the urge to help people,” Catatao said. “Something as small as saying ‘hi’ can make a huge difference.”
