JJ Abrams Leads Tributes to 'Star Trek' Actor Anton Yelchin: 'You Weren't Here Nearly Long Enough'

The actor died in a car accident outside his home.

Filmmaker JJ Abrams has led the tributes to actor Anton Yelchin, who passed away over the weekend in a freak car accident at his Los Angeles home.

Abrams directed Yelkin in the 2009 Star Trek reboot and its sequel, 2013’s Star Trek: Into Darkness.

The director and producer took to Twitter on his production company's account to mourn to the 27-year-old’s passing.

“Anton, you were brilliant,” he wrote. “You were kind. You were funny as hell, and supremely talented. And you weren’t here nearly long enough.”

Drake, who stared with Yelchin in the 2007 film, Charlie Bartlett, to paid tribute to his former costar on Instagram.

Justin Lin, who recently directed the young star in the forthcoming Star Trek: Beyond, posted:

Still in shock. Rest in peace, Anton. Your passion and enthusiasm will live on with everyone that had the pleasure of knowing you.

Zachary Quinto, who starred opposite Yelchin as Mr. Spock in the Star Trek films, eulogized Yelchin on Instagram.

"One of the most open and intellectually curious people i have ever had the pleasure to know. so enormously talented and generous of heart. wise beyond his years. and gone before his time. all love and strength to his family at this impossible time of grief,” he wrote.

Director Guillermo del Toro wrote:

Anton was a sweetheart. Absolutely a great creative partner and artist.
