14-Year-Old Boy Arrested for Putting Toddler in Washer and Dryer While Babysitting: Cops
The teen babysitter allegedly put the 3-year-old in dryer and turned it on several times.
A 14-year-old boy is in custody after a mother said he put her toddler daughter into a washing machine and dryer while babysitting the child.
The teen has been charged with neglect and criminal confinement and is being held at an Indiana juvenile detention center, Garrett Police Department Chief Roland McPherson told InsideEdition.com Tuesday.
Missy Camp, 20, left her daughters, ages 3 and 5, in the teen’s care while she went away on an overnight trip, police said. When she returned the next day, her youngest girl, Raelyn, was covered in bruises, she told officers.
"The juvenile said she fell of the merry-go-round in the park," McPherson said. But later, the 5-year-old said "that’s not what happened and the story of her being put in the washer and the dryer."
Camp’s family said on a Twitter page that the child had been placed in a washing machine filled with water, then put inside a dryer, which was turned on several times.
The child’s mother also made an allegation of sexual abuse, but that remains under investigation, McPherson said.
The teen had worked as a babysitter for the mother before without incident, Camp told authorities. She said she has known the boy for most of his life.
The teen has not yet had a court appearance, McPherson said. Messages left by InsideEdition.com with Dekalb County Prosecuting Attorney ClaraMary Winebrenner and Camp were not immediately returned.
