Caitlyn Jenner Throws Support Behind Trump at RNC... Hours After Ben Carson Assails Transgender People
Jenner says it was easier to come out as transgender than as a Republican.
“It was easy to come out as trans,” she said outside the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. “It was harder to come out as Republican.”
She got a warm reception at an event organized by American Unity Fund, a conservative gay and lesbian organization.
“Thank you, thank you, but they already nominated Donald last night," she said. "But I can make a difference."
At the event she said how she would like to help conservatives change their views on LGBTQ issues.
"I think the Republican Party needs to understand. They need to know people who are trans,” she said.
Jenner may have to start with former Republican presidential contender Dr. Ben Carson, who spoke out against transgender people in a diatribe at the convention hours earlier.
During his speech Tuesday night at the Quicken Loans Arena, Carson said: “For thousands of years, mankind has known what a man is and what a woman is. Now all of a sudden we don't know any more. Now, is that the height of absurdity?”
Carson was a Republican presidential contender himself before dropping out following several debates that saw him getting considerably less screen time than his Republican rivals.
He later endorsed Trump, who famously likened Carson's 'pathological temper' to a child molester in November.
During her remarks Wednesday, Jenner said that if she could tell Donald Trump one thing, it would be that “there are people out there that have been marginalized for so many years."
She added: "It's about the next generation coming up. We have to provide a safe environment for them."
