89-Year-Old Motorist Faces Up To 30 Years in Jail For Fatally Hitting Ex NFL Player

Domingo Javier Velso will be sentenced in October after he ran over Christopher Dyko, who played for the Chicago Bears in the late 80's.
An 89-year-old man faces decades in a Florida prison after he was convicted last week of leaving the scene of an accident following the death of a former NFL player.
Domingo Javier Velso was convicted by a jury of leaving the scene of an accident after he fatally struck ex Chicago Bears tackle Christopher Dyko in 2014, reports the Miami Herald.
Velso swerved into the bike lane while driving in the Florida Keys in December of that year, striking Dyko, who was on a bicycle, killing him instantly.

Velso left the scene, only to return hours later with his wife. He then told police he believed he's struck a road barricade.
However, Dyko's DNA was found on Velso's windshield, investigators said.
A jury found him guilty of leaving the scene of an accident involving a death.

Dyko was in the Florida Keys with a bicycle tour group when he was killed. The 48-year-old Washington State University alum played for the Chicago Bears in the 1980s.
Veloso did not testify at his trial, which lasted two days, and his attorneys called no witnesses. He was allowed to remain free on bond and will be sentenced at a hearing on Oct. 14.
Velso faces between 4 and 30 years behind bars.
