Man Bulldozes Neighbor's Home as Feud Spirals Out of Control: Cops
John Higdon of Drummonds, Tennessee, has to live in a trailer after cops say Edgar McLellan destroyed his home.
A Tennessee man allegedly drove a bulldozer straight through his neighbor's house this week in what cops are calling a feud that spiraled dangerously out of control.
The Tipton County Sheriff's Department said they responded to the Drummonds home of John Higdon Friday after they received reports of shots being fired into the woods.
Higdon, 48, told police, "there were multiple people hiding in and running from the woods and admitted to shooting into the woods several times," according to Fox13 Memphis.
After police left, they allegedly received additional reports of someone shooting into the woods. John Higdon was then arrested and charged with reckless endangerment.
On Saturday, a day after Higdon's arrest, police say a neighbor told emergency officials at about 2:15 that morning that a man was bulldozing a neighbor’s home.
While no one was home or injured, police arrived to find Higdon's house in ruins. Detectives say they then located a backhoe at a neighbor’s residence that was consistent with the description provided by witnesses.
Detectives say they also recovered debris from the vandalized home lodged in the backhoe. The neighbor owning the backhoe was identified as Edgar Dallas McLellan, 57.
McLellan was arrested and charged with trespassing and felony vandalism.
Both men are free on bond awaiting their arraignment in Tipton County General Session Court later this week. Detectives are continuing to investigate the incidents and expect additional charges.
“I am thankful that no one was injured by either of the men arrested in this neighbor’s dispute,” Sheriff J.T. "Pancho" Chumley said in a statement posted to Facebook.
