Local GOP Candidate Quits Race After Allegedly Sending 'Rape' Messages to Female Reporter
Daily Beast journalist Olivia Nuzzi says the New Jersey Republican has been calling her out since 2014.
A New Jersey GOP candidate for local office ended his campaign after allegedly posting online comments calling for the rape of a female reporter.
Mike Krawitz dropped out of the race for township council in West Deptford via a handwritten note to his party on Tuesday.

Krawitz told the Philadelphia Inquirer Monday that his social media account had been hacked and he was not the author of comments posted to the Facebook page of Daily Beast journalist Oliva Nuzzi.
But West Deptford Republican Committee chairman Bob Waller issued a statement before Krawitz quit saying there was “no reasonable reason” to believe Krawitz was hacked.
“We as a party cannot condone such repulsive, threatening or demeaning rhetoric of this kind being made by any person regardless of party,” Waller said.
Nuzzi, a 23-year-old New Jersey native, said online that Krawitz has previously harassed her online, using sexist slurs and calling her profane names.
The recent posts from his account to Nuzzi included “I. Hope. Somebody.Rapes.You.Today.” and “Hope.You.Get.Raped.By.A.Syrian.Refugee,” The Associated Press reported.
The posts followed an online endorsement from Nuzzi for an article about GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump’s ex-wife, Marla Maples.
Krawitz has not commented publicly since his remarks to the Philadelphia paper.
No complaint has been filed with the West Deptford Police Department, chief Sam DiSimone told the wire service. But he criticized the statements.
“It’s an embarrassment to the township that this is taking place,” he said.
