4-Month-Old Dies After Being Forgotten in a Hot Car For Hours

A 4-month-old baby girl was left in a hot car for at least nine hours in Oklahoma Tuesday, police said.

Mame Neta Attocknie, who was just shy of turning 5 months old, was left in the back seat of a vehicle by her foster parents, according to reports.

"Her foster father failed to drop the baby off at day care Tuesday morning after he took his son to school," police said. "The foster father, who works night shifts, went home and went to sleep."

When the baby's foster mother went to pick the child up from day care at 4:30 p.m. and discovered the child wasn't there, she became desperate, according to reports. 

Minutes before, the foster father had sent his son to the local Dollar General with Mame unknowingly strapped in her car seat, police said.

Both parents rushed to the Dollar General and found the baby dead, a police report said.

Police and medical personal were called to the scene.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation's special agents spent the night interviewing family and processing the vehicle.

No arrests have been made.
