Police Hunt For Man Who Shot 5 Dead, Including 4 Women, in Washington Macy's

Police are searching for the gunman who shot and killed four women and one man in a Washington mall Friday, authorities said.

The suspect opened fire at a Macy’s store inside of Cascade Mall in Burlington, an hour from Seattle, and used a long hunting rifle, according to police. He was caught on camera during the attack and police said they believe he is a Hispanic man in his 20s or 30s.

Four women were found dead at the scene and one man was transferred to Haborview Medical Center, where he later died of his injuries, Sgt. Mark Francis said in a press conference.

Francis said the suspect fled heading west from the mall towards Interstate 5 and encouraged people to stay safe. Francis tweeted that police had 11 search teams and two K9 teams searching for the shooter. 

“We are still actively looking for the shooter. Stay indoors, stay secure,” Francis said at a news conference.

Police said they are not clear on a motive, but have gotten several calls of people claiming to be the shooter, which they are hashing out. Francis said he is not sure if the shooter has left the county.

The names of the victims have not been released.

Witnesses said they heard gunshots during the attack.

Armando Patino told KOMO-TV he was working at a T-Mobile store near Macy's when he heard the commotion.

"Out of nowhere I just hear somebody yell and then after that, I turn around and just look at the Macy's and I just hear shots," Patino said.

According to Patino, people ran out of Macy's and he moved them into the T-Mobile store. Patino said they stayed in the store until they were evacuated by police.

The mall is closed Saturday "out of respect for the victims of this tragic event."
