2 Dead After Roller Coaster Derails at Mexico City Amusement Park

Authorities said they are investigating the accident as a negligent homicide.

Two people were killed in Mexico when a roller coaster jumped its track at La Feria de Chapultepec, a popular amusement park in Mexico City. 

Video shows the roller coaster’s back car fall on its side as the ride was going full-speed around a turn. The car then smashes into part of the metal loop on the ride. 

Witnesses told local outlets that the victims were ejected from the car. 

The victims were reportedly two men, 18 and 21. Two others were also injured in the incident.

Officials at La Feria de Chapultepec released a statement on the park's Facebook page, saying they “deeply regret the terrible accident that occurred.” The statement added that the safety of visitors is the park's priority and that officials are working with authorities.

Authorities said they are investigating the accident as a negligent homicide, according to local media. A preliminary report also said the accident was caused by a mechanical failure.
