School Tutor Arrested for Allegedly Fracturing 7-Year-Old Boy's Face, Knocking His Teeth Out
The little boy's injuries will reportedly require surgery.
A Maryland man was arrested after he allegedly put a 7-year-old child in the hospital, attacking the boy he had been tutoring as he walked him to the school office, according to reports.
Timothy Randall Korr, 25, was escorting the boy, whom his parents identified as Travon Grayson, to the main office of City Springs Elementary/Middle School for disciplinary reasons at the end of the school day on Monday.
During the walk to the office, Korr allegedly slammed the second grader up against a wall, police said.
Police responded to Johns Hopkins Children Center, where Travon had been taken with traumatic injuries, authorities said.
He had reportedly suffered a fracture to his face and several teeth had been knocked out. He will require surgery, his parents told the television station.
“He’s still shaking in his sleep, saying that he keeps having visions of [Korr] throwing him into a wall,” his mother, Lateekqua Jackson, told WESH-TV.
The alleged assault was reportedly captured on film.
“The video does show him carrying the child and slamming him up against the wall, and it's very difficult to watch. We cringed a number of times as we watched the video," Baltimore police spokesperson Chief T.J. Smith said at a press conference.
Smith noted that Travon was “slammed so hard, his body went limp.”
"To watch a child be basically manhandled like a sack of potatoes is incomprehensible,” he said.
Korr reportedly said that the boy had lost his footing and fell against the wall.
The school system is cooperating with a police investigation, a spokeswoman for Baltimore City schools said in a statement.
They noted that Korr was an employee of a charter operator for the school called Baltimore Curriculum Project, which said that he had been fired.
“We are heartsick that this child suffered this injury," Baltimore Curriculum Project said in a statement, calling the incident unusual and isolated.
The organization is also participating in an investigation of what happened.
"We pray for his complete and quick recovery and for his family as well,” the statement said.
Korr was charged with felony first- and second-degree child abuse, felony first- and misdemeanor second-degree assault, misdemeanor reckless endangerment and misdemeanor neglect of a minor, police said.
If convicted on all charges, he faces up to 85 years in prison.
Authorities said the investigation is ongoing.
