Authorities believe the child was born very recently.
A baby in a laundry basket was found abandoned inside a Minnesota Catholic cathedral this week.
Police say the little boy was wrapped in blankets and uninjured when paramedics arrived to the Cathedral of St. Paul Wednesday night.

The baby, believed to have been very recently born, was discovered by an employee conducting regular rounds of the building.
Custodian Nathan Leonhardt said the boy appeared to have been recently born and not yet washed. His umbilical cord was cut and clamped with a binder clip.
The custodian immediately alerted Cathedral Rector Father John Ubel, who called 911, according to The Catholic Spirit, the official publication of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis.
As they waited for police to arrive, Father Ubel baptized the child and christened him Nathan John.
The boy has since been placed in the care of Ramsey County Child Protective Services.
"I am profoundly grateful that this beautiful baby is healthy and safe and that whomever dropped him off at the Cathedral felt that this was a safe place where he would receive the care he needs and deserves as a child of God," Ubel said Thursday.
While Minnesota does have a safe haven law that allows a mother to leave a baby at a safe place within seven days of birth, a house of worship is not listed among those safe places.

However, St. Paul police want the mother to know they do not intend to pursue any criminal charges in the incident.
"We’re happy that the baby is safe, but we’re also concerned that there’s a mother that’s out there that possibly gave birth to this child without medical care and that’s possibly in need of some help also," Sgt. Mike Ernster of the St. Paul Police Department told the Pioneer Press. “We would encourage her to call 911 or go to a hospital without any fear of the police looking at this as a criminal matter."
