UCLA Student Posts Shocking Racist Rant on YouTube
A UCLA student posted a YouTube video of her racist rant against Asian students using their cell phones in the school library in the wake of the devastation in Japan. INSIDE EDITION reports.
Shocking video posted on YouTube is causing outrage in the wake of the disaster in Japan.
UCLA student Alexandra Wallace posted a video of herself ranting about Asian students talking to loved ones on cell phones at the campus library.
"The problem is these hordes of Asian people!" she said. "I swear they're going through their whole family just checking on everybody from the tsunami thing. Okay I know that sounds horrible."
Wallace is a political science major and aspiring model.
Her video went viral and is causing anger and pain among Asian students already anguished over the fate of loved ones in Japan. Now Wallace is receiving death threats. The chancellor of the university called the rant hateful and ignorant.
In a statement, Alexandra Wallace apologized. "If I could undo it, I would. I'd like to offer my apology to the entire UCLA campus," she said.
But she's not the only American in trouble over insensitive remarks about the tsunami.
Comedian Gilbert Gottfried has lost his job as the voice of the Aflac duck after making jokes about the disturbing scenes coming out of Japan.
He tweeted: "I was talking to my Japanese real estate agent. I said, 'is there a school in this area?' she said, 'not now, but just wait'."
Aflac fired him for the wisecrack, but Whoopi Goldberg defended Gottfried on The View.
"Comics have never been appropriate. They've never been appropriate, that's the whole idea," she said.
Gottfried apologized and said he meant no disrespect.
But director Clint Eastwood is being sensitive. He and Warner Brothers have pulled the movie Hereafter from Japanese movie theatres. It features an Oscar®-winning visual effects sequence of a tsunami hitting shore, a painful reminder of the recent events in Japan.
