Rescue Dog Saves 3-Year-Old Girl's Life, Finds Her Curled Up in a Ditch
She was thankfully uninjured.
A heroic dog that was once rescued has now saved the life of a 3-year-old girl.
Michigan police received the call about a 3-year-old lying naked in a ditch in freezing temperatures on Friday morning, but if it weren’t for the dog, Peanut, things may have ended very differently.
Peanut’s family believes she has a sixth sense due to her past abuse.
“Peanut started going crazy at our house," her owner explained in a letter to the Delta Animal Shelter, where they adopted the dog. "She was running up and down the stairs, barking and yelping."
The owner said it was unusual for the dog to be running upstairs in their home.
"She then went and got my husband, who was in the garage working on some projects, and alerted him that she wanted to go outside," the owner continued. “He let her outside where she went barreling into the field behind our house at full speed. My husband followed her and to his surprise, he found a naked, shivering, 3-year-old girl curled up in a ball."
The owner’s husband quickly scooped up the girl, wrapped her in a sweatshirt and called police. It was 32 degrees outside.
“By the time the ambulance and police arrived, the little girl could only say one thing – ‘doggie,’” the woman wrote.
Peanut was adopted by the Michigan family in April 2016 after her former owner was convicted of animal abuse. She had two broken legs and broken ribs.
“Thanks to Peanut, a little girl’s life was saved today. She has been such a blessing to us, and now to others,” she added.
The girl was transported to a local hospital uninjured, according to reports.
Police later reportedly found the girls’ parents in unsafe living conditions.
The 3-year-old and another child living at the residence were removed from the home, according to police.
