Another Giraffe Gives Birth as April Keeps the World Waiting

As fans of April the giraffe continue to wait patiently for her to give birth, a giraffe across the pond has welcomed her newborn.
Orla, an endangered Rothschild’s giraffe, gave birth to her offspring Monday afternoon. The calf was even spotted on surveillance footage at the Chester Zoo in England taking its first wobbly steps.

"For a while, we could just see two spindly legs poking out," giraffe team manager Sara Roffe said in a press release. "She’s an experienced mum and a few hours later she delivered the calf safely onto soft straw as the rest of the herd, including her other young, Kidepo and Millie, looked on."
Zoo officials joked that her birth is a miracle since her calf is a significant addition to the critically endangered species, but also because she's beaten April, a giraffe at Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, N.Y., in giving birth.
April has been in labor for the past three months, and was also bested in delivering her young by the Denver Zoo's Kipele, who gave birth last month to 73-pound Dobby, a male giraffe.
The mammal was also spoofed by a South Carolina woman, who wore a giraffe’s mask as she livestreamed the delivery of her own baby in the hospital.
Recently, followers of April’s livestream that has been broadcast to millions of viewers on YouTube since February speculated her pregnancy was nothing more than an April Fools' Day prank.
Jordan Patch, the owner of the private zoo in upstate New York that April calls home, maintains to Inside Edition that April's pregnancy is not a hoax.
"While I could understand that it would be a really neat elaborate hoax, it is not that. It is 15 to 16 months work of buildup to an exciting moment," he said
