Mystery Woman Who Said She Was a Mermaid Is Identified After Police Appeal

The woman was nearly naked when she was found Tuesday. She is now being reunited with her family.
A woman who told officers in California that she was a mermaid when they found her wet and barely dressed has been identified after a police appeal.
The 33-year-old woman is from Virginia, but police have not yet released her name. They identified her following a tip, which led them to a relative.
The woman flew to Fresno last week to see about possibly moving to the area, police learned. They are now looking for people she may have met during her visit and say she may have been the victim of a crime.
She will be reunited with her friends and family, police said.

The woman was found wandering down a street on Tuesday at 3 a.m. while barely dressed. She had wet hair and told officers that she'd just been in the water.
Officers noted that the woman had webbed toes on both feet and replied, "I don’t know" to most of their questions, though she claimed to be a mermaid.
She had no identification on her so police released her image in a bid to learn her identity.
