Panda-Monium Hits Small Town as It Welcomes 2 Giant Panda Cubs at Local Zoo
Rhenen, a small town in central Holland, saw a spike in panda memorabilia as 3-year-old cubs Xing Ya and Wu Wen were transported to their local zoo.
It was utter pandemonium as a central Netherlands town prepares to care for two giant panda cubs.
Rhenen, a small city of about 20,000 people, saw its small businesses packed with panda memorabilia for locals who wanted to purchase souvenirs to mark the pandas’ arrival to their town’s Ouwehands Zoo, where an entire panda pavilion had been prepared, according to APTN.
The panda cubs Xing Ya and Wu Wen, both 3 years old, first touched down at Amsterdam Airport Schipol Wednesday evening after a long flight from their native Sichuan, China.
Xing Ya, meaning Elegant Star, and Wu Wen, meaning Beautiful Powerful Cloud, are on loan from China.
There are reportedly 420 pandas living in zoos and reserves around the world. Most of the pandas in captivity live within China.
