Parents of 6-Year-Old In TSA Pat Down Video Speak Out
The parents of a 6-year-old girl who was patted down by TSA agents are speaking out about putting kids through such an ordeal. INSIDE EDITION has the story.
The parents of 6-year-old Anna Drexel, who was subjected to a full body pat down at an airport, are speaking out for the first time.
The video of Anna being thoroughly searched by a TSA agent at the New Orleans International Airport is causing outrage.
Selena Drexel and her husband Dr. Todd Drexel appeared on Good Morning America. They said Anna cried after the search because she thought she had done something wrong.
"There needs to be different screening procedures especially for children... We felt that it was inappropriate," said Selena.
"She was very upset and crying so we had to try to explain this to her and it was very difficult for her," said Todd.
Selena says she objected to the search but a TSA supervisor insisted on it.
"Not verbally but in no uncertain terms the TSA supervisor who is skilled at non-verbal communication, letting me know there would be trouble if I caused a fuss," said Selena.
The pat down video also upset the women on The View: "Honestly, I want to say[to mykids], 'If anyone pats you down, Mommy's going to pat them right back!'" said Elisabeth Hasselback.
INSIDE EDITION viewers have been weighing in on our Facebook page.
"What's to stop a crazy adult to put explosives on their children?" Alan posted.
Jean wrote: "What happened to common sense? Apparently it just got thrown out the window."
With the pat down video going viral, the TSA is now saying it is "exploring additional ways to focus its resources and move beyond a one-size fits all system."
The TSA also said in a statement that the agent who performed the pat down followed procedure and did not do anything wrong.
